How does a natural deodorant work?
For starters, it's important to note that there is a difference between antiperspirants, commercial deodorants and natural deodorants. Antiperspirants store a whole host of chemicals in your tissues which is what stop your sweat glands from producing sweat. Commercial drug store deodorants are typically alcohol-based, and when applied, they turn your skin acidic. This makes your skin more attractive to bacteria, therefore less likely for it to hang around and become smelly.
For many active people, switching from antiperspirants to natural deos depend on the ingredients. For years now, there have been concerns about the negative side effects of aluminium, parabens and triclosan which are active ingredients in antiperspirants and drug store deodorants. We thought to ourselves if there is a way to have a heavy workout without having to resort to chemical-filled deodorants before and afterwards, that'd be a game changer! So we made it our mission to find a solution and thats what we did.
Our deodorants let you sweat naturally, cooling your body and releasing toxins while using plant and mineral based ingredients like coconut oil and tapioca starch to absorb wetness. We also use essential oils to combat sweat and help your body self-regulate, thanks to their antibacterial, astringent and calming properties.
PS: We encourage all of our customers to get a heavy workout in after applying Wavy Deo to really put it to the test and see for yourself why it's such a great deodorant!
Maybe you've heard the rumours about a super-sweaty detox period when switching from an antiperspirant to a natural deodorant? After years (or decades) of having your sweat ducts plugged up by the aluminium salts in antiperspirants, your body needs to adjust and get used to sweating again. When you remove the ‘plug’ of aluminium, you begin releasing what you had been blocking off, which contributes to that brief detox period. During this detox (which typically lasts about 2 to 4 weeks) you may find yourself sweating more which is your body's sign of working hard to release toxins. You may or may not experience a detox phase at
all, (everyone is different!)
If you do find that you're going through a detox period, hang in there and be consistent. As much as you may want to revert back to your old antiperspirant on those sweatier days, try not to as it will make it harder for your body to fully adjust. If you’d like, you can always refresh your underarms throughout the
day if you wish to aid the detox process. The detox will be over soon and your body will be better than ever, after detoxing from built-up toxins, bacteria and chemicals!
Below are 5 Tips to help get you through the conventional
deodorant detox phase:
•Drink a lot of water
•Take hot baths
•Do a DIY armpit clay mask
•Go deodorant free at night
